Family Background: Not much is known about Lorne’s personal or family life. His mother was an art teacher and taught him how to paint on weekends while he was growing up. But he gave up the practice for a while after joining the Air Force, not having the time during basic training or during his first few years on duty. Though being stationed in Atlantis rekindled his muse and he has started painting again.
It’s known that Lorne has at least one sister and is a proud uncle to her two young sons. It’s also assumed that he has a fairly close relationship with his family, although they have no knowledge of his current assignment or duty station.
Friends: Lt. Col. Sheppard, Dr. Rodney McKay, Teyla Emmagan, Ronon Dex, Dr. Carson Beckett, Dr. Radek Zelenka, Andra Kes
Background Information
Personality: Lorne is career military and generally follows orders, carrying out his duties with little to no protest. Even the ones that seem rather outlandish like space wrangling an asteroid in an F-302 to deflect a laser beam or assignments he doesn’t necessarily enjoy such as babysitting the scientists and being partnered up with Rodney McKay, Lorne diligently performs the tasks he’s given to best of his abilities. While he may be skeptical that some of Sheppard’s more “creative” ideas may work, he has faith in the Colonel and trusts his CO wouldn’t put anyone in harms way without a damn good reason. Although he suspects Sheppard may put him on babysitting detail just to annoy him or as a form of payback towards some of the Major’s special brand of witticism.
Though while Lorne takes orders easily enough, he’s just as adept at giving them, running Atlantis’ military with ease during Sheppard’s absence as well as being the team leader of his own off-world unit. Even Dr. Elizabeth Weir professed her own faith in his abilities, having chosen Lorne to head up her own personal security detail as well as calling him up for rescue missions the instant she suspects Sheppard and his team may have gotten themselves in over their heads. Though to be perfectly fair, Lorne has gotten into his own fair share of trouble and then its team Shep to the rescue. But in a nut shell, Lorne is dependable, reliable, and is able to keep a level head out in the field.

Lorne also possess a very wry sense of humor and expresses his opinions in his own special way. Snarkasm -- not sarcasm -- is his own brand of mockery. Many a scientist and botanist have been on the receiving end of his rapier wit without realizing it. Even Sheppard’s not immune to Lorne’s satiric remarks. The man has elevated snark to an art form.
But snarkasm isn’t the only way in which Lorne expresses himself. He has also developed more refined ways and is an exceptional painter. During his down time, he can often be found out on one of Atlantis’ balconies, painting extremely detailed and colorful depictions of the city.
Likes: Lorne enjoys painting and with Atlantis’ awe inspiring views; he can’t help not to paint the city’s towering spires and architecture. He also enjoys flying or he never would have become a pilot. He’s also a bit of a rock hound, having a minor degree in geology. He likes sports -- making a favorite one out of mocking the expedition’s scientists -- and beer.
Dislikes: Scientists, botanists, people with no sense of humor (which usually tend to be scientists and botanists), people who don’t have a clue (which also tend to be scientists and botanists), and life suckers.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Lorne is a caring individual, concerned with the well being and the safety of those around him. He subscribes to the same philosophy as most of those in Atlantis, the SGC, and the military in general -- you don’t leave your people behind. He has tested this belief on more than one occasion at great personal risk to himself.
Quirks/Habits: Lorne’s an equal opportunity mocker.
Sexual Preference: Straight/Heterosexual
History: A Major in the U.S. Air Force, Evan Lorne is no stranger to going off-world and meeting alien races. He was stationed at Stargate Command for several years, working out of the base in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, where he was assigned to SG-11 as the Executive Officer to Colonel Edwards. While with SG-11, Lorne did a tour on P3X-403 at a naquadah dig site, an assignment which nearly ended in disaster.
Unbeknownst to SG-11 and the geological team they were babysitting, they inadvertently disturbed some artifacts belonging to the native population of the planet known as the Unas – large primitive bipedal reptile like creatures -- who are very territorial and where the Goa’uld’s first hosts. One of the engineers assigned to the dig was abducted by the Unas and was later found dead, killed as a warning.
Tensions were high due to misunderstanding between the humans and Unas, and a war nearly broke out as a result. But after some negotiation with the Unas’ leader called “Iron Shirt,” Dr. Daniel Jackson along with his Unas friend – Chaka -- was able to reach a peaceful solution and prevent a blood bath.
After that incident, Lorne continued to serve with SG-11 until it was discovered he possessed the ATA gene. He was then transferred to the Atlantis expedition under the command of Lt. Col. Sheppard. While not an original member of the expedition, Lorne was among the first batch of new personnel sent over on the Daedalus to the Ancestral city after its second Wraith siege.

Since that time, Lorne has proven himself on more than one occasion, having earned the trust and respect of those who serve above and below him. He represents the steady constant, the loyal guy that both Dr. Weir and Col. Carter have relied upon in Sheppard’s absence. He’s also the guy that Sheppard himself trusts in his stead, appointing Lorne as his Executive Officer and second in command to Atlantis’ military contingent.
Weapons: Lorne carries the standard Atlantis military issue, a 9 millimeter M92F Beretta for his sidearm, a TR P-90, and USN MK 3 combat knife. However, he has also been known to use to a bazooka every once in a while as well as supplement his ordnance with C-4 and a Wraith stunner when the situation dictates.
Special Skills/Training/Abilities/Education: Lorne is a skilled pilot and is able to use Ancient technology due to his natural possession of the ATA gene. He also has a background in geology and has picked up some Goa’uld during his stint in the SGC.
Medical History
Allergies: No known allergies.
Injuries/Illnesses: Lorne has been surprising lucky as far as illness and injury goes – especially considering his choice of career.
- As a child, Lorne suffered from somnambulism – sleepwalking – though he hasn’t had an incident since the age of 10. At least not until an alien entity -- that fed off the fears and nightmares of its victims while they slept -- caused a sleepwalking incident in which the Major nearly shot his CO, believing Sheppard was a Replicator.
- Due to a common childhood illness in the Pegasus Galaxy known as Kirsan fever, Lorne experienced a form of amnesia that would eventually lead to his death. Though unlike most of his colleagues, he was still able to retain some short term memory and carry out his standing orders, which was to round up everyone infected with the illness and sequester them in the mess hall – thanks mainly to a heavy course of stimulants he and the rest of the military contingent were taking. However, this only led to Lorne being highly agitated and suspicious of anyone outside his team. He even hampered Teyla’s dissemination of the cure through Atlantis’ ventilation system.
- While accompanying Sheppard’s team to investigate one of Michael’s research labs, Lorne was buried under several tons of rubble with Dr. McKay when the scientist inadvertently triggered a bobby trap, causing the building they were in to implode. As a result, Lorne suffered a head wound, several lacerations, and a broken left leg.
- Unbeknownst to Lorne, he was infected by an alien organism that was released when Michael's lab imploded and began showing symptoms of the infection roughly three weeks later. However his condition never reached the full blown stage as exemplified in Dr. Keller, having received the cure from Dr. Beckett before his symptoms could progress that far and turn him into a hive ship.
Mental Health: Stable
Eyesight: 20/20
Hearing: Normal
ATA Gene: Positive — Lorne is a natural carrier of the gene though it’s not as strong nor is he no where near as proficient with using it as Sheppard.
